In this article, we want to highlight how to prepare for the freezing temperatures that could potentially cause harm to your home. We know this time of year (at least here in Minnesota) can be unpredictable. Frozen water pipes are too common in the winter and we want to help avoid that. So, on to the preparation steps to take so you can avoid a busted frozen water pipe this winter!

Remember, preparation is important. Especially when it comes to your home! Begin preparing before the weather changes to consistent freezing temperatures or preferably in the fall. Here are 3 tips from us on how to do so.

  1. Turn water supply valves off to any exterior spigots and disconnect any garden hoses. In this tip also make sure the spigot is tightly turned to the off position.

  2. Have an HVAC company come to the home and inspect the furnace. They can identify and remedy any potential problems rather than having a malfunction in the middle of the cold season.

  3. If you have a sink that is located near an exterior wall. Be sure to apply a foam insulation wrap around the water supply line. This product can be easily purchased at any hardware store.
